SaphenionScience: VenaSeal varicose veins: Since 7 years we are working with VenaSeal (Medtronic, Minneapolis), a N-butyl -2 – cyanoacrylate in therapy of truncal varicose veins. Until to today time we treated 2384 truncal veins. The cyanoacrylat – polymer is a high effective vein glue for the treatment of patients with CVI and varicosie veins.As an implanted device, question is important: How long cyanoacrylate persists after using as a vein glue inside the truncal varicose veins.

Since 8/2012 we use the vein glue at Saphenion. First use parallel to radiofrequency therapy. Meanwhile, more than 95% of our patients choose the glue for the treatment of truncal varicose veins.In the meantime, technical indications have broadened the indications. Now we are treating for recurrent episodes, venous tumors, vein ectasies and aneurysms as well as perforating veins.

Since 19 years by now, varicosis has been increasingly treated endovenously. At the start, the rather inconvenient VNUS®Closure plus-procedure and the more convenient linear laser procedure were used, and these were followed in 2006/2007 by the bipolar RFITT – catheter, the VNUS Closure Fast – system and the radial laser. Thus, in the course of the last few years, plenty of experience has been gatheredwith endoluminal therapy, quality criteria have been defined andstandards for the different techniques have been developed.
